Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray announced Thursday the arrest of seven adults and five juveniles that have been charged in 15 carjackings.

Murray says the carjackings took place during June, July and August. The majority of the incidents happened in various areas of Newark. There were also carjackings in Irvington and East Orange.

The arrested juveniles range in age from 15 to 17 years-old.

Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio says the Essex County Carjacking Taskforce, which is made up of local, state and federal authorities, is responsible for the arrests.
