Dennis Gomes, the Resorts Casino Hotel co-owner famous for his knack for attracting free publicity to his casinos, was honored at a memorial service Friday, a day after he was laid to rest in a private ceremony.

A casino spokeswoman declined to release details of Gomes' burial on Thursday.

At a memorial service at a church not far from the casino Gomes and partner Morris Bailey rescued a year and a half ago, Gomes was recalled as a visionary who was willing to try almost anything.

Gomes died suddenly on Feb. 24 of complications from kidney dialysis. He was 68.
