CVS now fills pet prescriptions at New Jersey pharmacies
The major retail pharmacy announced Tuesday that pet owners can fill common prescription medications for dogs and cats at its approximately 9,000 CVS locations nationwide, including New Jersey. The drugs include antibiotics, allergy, flea and tick control, insulin, cardiovascular medicine, heartworm prevention and pain relievers.
“Greater flexibility in where pet prescriptions are filled helps reduce stress and delays, ensuring pets receive the medications they need conveniently while supporting their health and well-being,” according a CVS statement.

How to fill your dog's or cat's prescription at CVS
Any pet owner who would like to fill their pet’s medication at CVS Pharmacy simply need to present a written prescription or ask their veterinarian to contact the pharmacy directly.
Once CVS receives the script, the pet owner can choose to either pick it up in-store or opt to have it delivered, if eligible.
Pet owners can also add their pets to their CVS.com profile and manage any eligible pet prescription through the CVS Health app.
Prescriptions for pets are eligible for many of the same pharmacy services as their owners, including automatic refills and prescription syncing.
“With the addition of pet medication dispensing, CVS Pharmacy can now serve every member of the family. Combined with our convenient locations, extended hours, and broad range of health and wellness products, we offer a true one-stop destination for care,” said Sid Tenneti, senior vice president and interim president for pharmacy and consumer wellness at CVS Health.
In addition to prescription pet medications, pet owners can find everything from shampoos and wet and dry food, to flea and tick care and dental treats in the pet section of CVS stores and on CVS.com.

CVS ExtraBucks rewards and savings on pet medications
CVS customers can earn up to $50 in ExtraBucks Rewards per calendar year for pharmacy activities like filling pet prescriptions, immunizations and more, according to the retailer.
Third-party discount cards may also offer pet parents more savings on their pet’s medications.
To help make this new service even more convenient for pet owners and veterinarians, additional enhancements including electronic prescription capabilities will be added in the coming months.
There are currently about 345 CVS pharmacies across 233 New Jersey cities.
