Gomes died last Friday in Philadelphia at age 68 from complications of kidney dialysis. The funeral will be held at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Roman Catholic Church in Atlantic City.

His family asks that donations be made in his memory to Gilda's Club, and the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality and Tourism at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

Gomes ran many casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, and his efforts as a gambling regulator to root out organized crime in Nevada were chronicled in the 1995 film "Casino."
