Can anyone in NJ identify this weird creature (and get it some help)?

I received an interesting email from a Jersey guy by the name of Ryan Morrison. Ryan was in Ewing when he spotted something he could not identify for the life of him. He quickly took some pictures of this creature and asked if I (or anyone else for that matter) had any idea what sort of animal this is. I don't.

He even joked that it could be the Jersey Devil, but it's no laughing matter to Ryan. He'd like to get this poor thing some help. It certainly looks like it could use some veterinary aid, whatever it is. Is this simply a stray dog that was abused or has mange? Could it be a sick fox? Maybe a young coyote that's not doing well? The first step in getting it some help might be figuring out what it is.

Ryan would like to have it rescued, whether it's a wild animal or domesticated, and have some medical assistance rendered. He took these photos Sunday about 4:30pm so there's still time. He's already made a few contacts including the Ewing police. He saw this poor fellow at Ewingville Rd. and Spruce St.. I know there's a park called Moody Park very nearby. Could this mystery animal be living in that park and coming out to the nearby neighborhood looking for some much needed food?
