Bridgeton Man Pleads Guilty in Fatal Car-Chase Crash

A southern New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter for stealing a paramedic vehicle and striking another vehicle during a chase, killing an 81-year-old man.

Michael Jones faces a 30-year sentence and will have to serve 85 percent of that before he's eligible for parole.

Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae announced Jones' plea Friday. The 48-year-old Bridgeton resident also pleaded guilty to theft of a vehicle and eluding.

Prosecutors allege Jones stole the vehicle from the Franklinville Fire Company in Gloucester County on March 30, 2010 and led police on a chase that reached speeds of 100 mph and stretched into Cumberland County.

While in Vineland, Jones crashed into a van, killing 81-year-old Alfred Costantino.

Jones' sentencing is scheduled for August 9.
