Body Found Off Wildwood Crest is Missing Swimmer

Authorities say a body found in shallow waters off the southern New Jersey coast has been identified as that of a Florida man who disappeared last weekend while swimming.

Twenty-four-year-old Christian Alfred was swimming in Wildwood around 7 p.m. Saturday when witnesses say he began to struggle in the water and then failed to resurface.

Crews then used boats and helicopters to search for Alfred throughout the night, but eventually suspended their efforts Sunday morning. His body was found later that day off Wildwood Crest, not far from where he was last seen.

Authorities say Alfred was a Miami native who was attending school in New York City.
