Six families have been displaced following a multi-alarm fire that broke out in a Bloomfield apartment complex Saturday.

The fire erupted around 6 p.m. creating thick black smoke that could be seen from the Garden State Parkway.

Bloomfield resident Michael Venezia shared an appeal on his Facebook page for donations to help the 22 people that lived in the house on Charles Street. He said the family includes five girls size 7, 8, 10 and 2T. Venezia was not sure about the size of one of the girls who is age 16. The New Jersey chapter of the American Red Cross said they also offered assistance.

A GoFundMe page was created for one of the families displaced by the fire.

Roy Campbell, a mechanic at a nearby garage, told CBS New York he ran into the building when he saw the roof of the apartments collapsing.

“I said somebody has got to be in that house. So I went running around the corner, opened the door and yelled, ‘Fire, everybody get out!'” Campbell told the news outlet.

Venezia said crews from Irvington, East Orange, Clifton, West Orange and Verona all helped put out the fire.
