Belleville Man Indicted in Toddler’s Death
A northern New Jersey man has been indicted in the shooting death of his girlfriend's toddler son.
The Essex County prosecutor's office announced charges Monday against 28-year-old Wakir Bryant of Belleville. He faces five counts, including reckless manslaughter, in the death of 2-year-old Mikhy Robinson.
Prosecutors say the child died after being shot in the mouth Dec. 30 in a Newark apartment.
Bryant also faces charges of child endangerment, hindering apprehension and two weapons offenses. A separate indictment charges him with possession of a weapon as a convicted felon.
A spokesman for the office of the public defender, which is representing Bryant, declined to comment Monday afternoon.
Bryant remains jailed on $250,000 bail.
