Fifty-six-year-old Robert Goss of Lawrence and a 63-year-old friend were looking for artifacts Saturday in Baldpate Mountain Park in Hopewell when they came across two old buildings.

They noticed a shallow hole, about 4 feet deep, near one building that had a large boulder in a side wall. Goss kicked the stone several times to see if it could be moved before he went in the hole, but the boulder soon became dislodged and fell on him..

Goss' friend tried for an hour to free him before calling 911. Rescue squads eventually pulled Goss to safety.
