His name isn't known. The circumstances aren't known. But one thing is — hearts across the state are aching for the loss of a Sayreville police officer.

Condolences were coming in from all over for the Sayreville officer, found dead in his personal vehicle next to the former Amboy Multiplex Cinemas on Route 9 in Sayreville.

Sayreville councilman Pat Lembo, who is on the council's public safety committee, said that while the investigation into the officer's death is ongoing — and no name had yet been released as of mid-day Monday, just a few hours after the officer's body was found — "our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office and Sayreville Police were continuing to investigate the discovery, which authorities said happened at 7:15 a.m.

"Sorry for the loss of your brother. Rest in Peace officer. Sayreville strong!" wrote Brianna Page on the Sayreville Police Facebook page. Debra Kath Jackson wrote, "My heart aches for the passing of one of Sayreville's finest and for his family. I am sending prayers your way, as well as to all police officers that serve our town, our state, and our country. God Bless you all!"
