Students and staff have been evacuated from Absegami High School following a chemical spill.

The Press of Atlantic City is reporting there was a spill of an unidentified substance on the second floor this morning. The Atlantic County Hazardous Material Team is on scene.

Around 9AM, there was a chemical smell reported from a chemical storage room where the chemistry labs keep all their equipment, said Steven B. Ciccariello, superintendent of the Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District. The doors to the closet were locked, but a decision was made – because of the smell- to evacuate the building, he said.

No students or faculty are reported to be injured. Parents have been alerted about the situation.
