SOUTHAMPTON — A 14-year-old boy died after his ATV hit another on Saturday afternoon.

New Jersey State Police said Nicolas Cunningham, 14 of Southampton was driving a Yamaha Rhino ATV in the area of Friendship and Patty Bowker roads just after 3:06 p.m. Cunningham was riding with a passenger when police said he lost control and hit a Kawasaki Prairie ATV being driven by another 14-year-old boy.

Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene after he and his passenger were ejected from the Yamaha, according to police, who said the passenger and Kawasaki driver were hospitalized at Cooper Trauma Center in Camden. Their identities were not disclosed

All three teens were not wearing helmets, according to police, who said an investigation into an exact cause continues.

Cunningham was in the 8th grade at Southampton Middle School in Southampton. "We would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham. We all need to work together to support our students, staff, and other community members impacted by this tragic event," the district wrote in a Facebook post, and said counseling would be available at the school on Monday.
