‘The Mayor of Simpleton’ by XTC: Doyle’s ‘Not-So-Top-10 List’

XTC is a British new wave type band that has been together since 1976 (although they stopped touring in 1982 after one of their members, Andy Partridge, collapsed on stage on two separate occasions- he later said “stage fright” was the cause).

Their new wave/pop songs are often catchy and interesting, but major success has eluded them. They only charted one US Top 100 hit and it is the one I requested of Big Joe, “The Mayor of Simpleton”. Alas, I am still waiting for him to play it.
