Woman killed, dog survives East Brunswick fire

EAST BRUNSWICK — An early morning fire claimed the life of a 60-year-old woman early Friday.

Tracy Baran, 60, was killed in the fire that broke out in a home on Nelson Circle, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey, who said the fire did not appear to be suspicious.

Baran lived alone in the home with her dog, neighbors told News 12 New Jersey,  which reported that the dog survived the fire.

Carey said that Baran died from smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning.

No firefighters or police officers were injured. The home was heavily damaged by the fire.
