The Press of Atlantic City reported that Fumo was swimming with friends Thursday afternoon near the Ocean City-Longport Bridge when he was injured. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus trauma center in Atlantic City, and underwent emergency surgery.

Fumo planned to play for Cumberland County College, a top Northeast junior college baseball program, according to the report.

A GoFundMe page said Fumo has had movement in some extremities, but his long-term prognosis is unclear.
