Some may say that political correctness is getting out of control lately, and this incident proves that.

When NBC's Today Show was discussing the fake sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela's Memorial Service, the producer decided to put his own twist on the story. Reporters Willie Geist, Natalie Morales, and Al Roker were reporting the story, when an image of the producer signing nonsense popped up in a graphic underneath them. Each of the reporters expressed unhappiness with the producer's joke, and the graphic was taken away.

After this happened, NBC issued an apology for the joke via twitter, claiming that it was 'offensive.' The producer was not mocking deaf people, or sign language, but instead was poking fun at the fake interpreter.

Do you think that NBC should have issued an apology for this joke? Or do you think they are being too careful not to step on anyone's toes?

The graphic of the producer has been removed from the video clip on NBC's website, but you can watch the footage with his joke in the video below.
