Should Apple help the FBI with phone-hacking software? (Poll)
To paraphrase a line from Star Trek, "when do the needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many?" In this case, should Apple create a security defeating software so that the FBI can get into the cell phone of one of the San Bernardino shooters?
Experts say they could do it in an afternoon. A judge has ordered them to do so, but Apple is fighting the ruling and has sent an open letter to its customers explaining their position. Apple claims such software would be a major threat to all of its customers, which is true, but the information in the terrorist's phone could be a major threat to our country. I believe that this is where the needs of the one definitely outweigh the needs of the many.
Personally, I’m surprised such software doesn’t exist already, it may only be a matter of time before it does. Living in New Jersey, where there are so many terror targets, I want our government to have everything they need to fight this threat and if that means hacking an iPhone so be it.
