Drew University spokesman David Muha tells the Star-Ledgerthat Drew public safety officers and Madison police swept the campus early Sunday and soon determined the reports were false.

Muha says the lockdown went into effect shortly after a brawl erupted at student dance held on campus. A Drew student was arrested in connection with the fight, but further details were not disclosed.

Muha says the rumors about a gunman started swirling as students left the dance, and several people contacted campus public safety. The campus lockdown was then in effect from 1:15 a.m. to 2:30.

Drew University has about 2,700 students.
