Roxbury police say the accident occurred just before 7 p.m. Friday. They say a 56-year-old township man was clearing snow when his snowblower became clogged for some reason.

But it's not yet clear whether the man had turned off the machine before he tried to clear the clog. Authorities note that "pressure can remain" inside the machine, even after it's turned off.

The man, whose name was not disclosed, cut off the index and middle fingers on his right hand at the first joint.

He was being treated at a hospital, but further details on his injuries were not disclosed Saturday.
