Agency officials announced plans for the $1.5 billion project on Tuesday. PATH trains now end at Newark's Penn Station.

It's part of a proposed $27.6 billion, 10-year capital plan that will go before the authority's full board on Feb. 19.

Nearly half of the money is dedicated to maintaining facilities. Officials say $1 billion will be spent on repairing damage from Superstorm Sandy and preventing future damage from storms, mostly on the PATH line.

About $8 billion will go to aviation facilities, with $7.9 billion earmarked for tunnels and bridges.
