NY man accused of robbing Paramus Exxon and injuring worker

⛽ A gas station attendant in Paramus was injured after a driver allegedly stole $50 worth of gas and sped away, running over the worker’s foot.
🚔 Surveillance video and a multi-agency investigation helped police identify and arrest a New York man connected to the incident.

PARAMUS — A New York man has been arrested in connection with a robbery and aggravated assault that occurred at a gas station in Bergen County in May.

Paramus gas station theft turns violent

On May 29, at approximately 8 a.m., Paramus police responded to the Exxon station, located at 792 Route 17 North, after receiving a report that someone stole gasoline.

The 43-year-old gas station attendant from Oradell told police the driver requested $50 worth of regular gasoline and said he would pay in cash.

After the attendant filled up the car, the driver hit the gas pedal and took off without paying, driving over the attendant's right foot, according to Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti. The attendant was taken to a hospital for treatment, said Guidetti.

Surveillance video captured the incident, and a detective identified the suspect vehicle as a 20025 Lexus bearing New York registration.

Bergen County investigation leads to New York suspect

With the help of the Clarkstown Police Department, the detective was able to identify the driver as Alexis J. Santiago, 35, of Airmont, New York, Guidetti said.

Robbery and aggravated assault charges filed

He was taken into custody the same day by New York State Police on unrelated charges including, second-degree robbery, third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (motor vehicle), fourth-degree assault by auto, and theft, a disorderly persons offense.
