A tractor trailer struck a telephone pole on Route 1 causing traffic delays on Tuesday afternoon.

North Brunswick Police, in a release on their Facebook page, said the truck hit the pole on the southbound side at Adams Lane coming within feet of a Midas Muffler store and taking out a sign. Most of the truck's load of dirt spilled onto the store's lawn.

The driver was pinned inside the cab of the truck, according to police, but emergency service personnel were able to get the man out. He was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with non-life threatening injuries.

Three of the four lanes through the area were closed for clean up causing a multi-mile delay in both directions with rubbernecking. All lanes were completely reopened around 2 p.m.
