One dead in 4-alarm Brick house fire
An investigation continues into a 4-alarm house fire in Brick early Sunday morning that left one man dead and his wife injured.
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says the blaze broke out at the Brower Street home just before 1 a.m. 74-year-old Robert Kanwisher and his wife Debra Kanwisher, 63, were able to escape, but Robert died at the scene. Debra remains hospitalized.
Firefighters from the Pioneer Hose Company returned to the home on Sunday morning to put out some hot spots and small fires that broke out. Following the collection of evidence the home was later razed by a crew from the Ocean County Highway Department due to the extent of the damage and the instability of the exterior walls.
The family's dog remains unaccounted for according to the Prosecutor's Office.
Units from Bayhead, Mantoloking and Point Pleasant also responded to the fire. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Arson Unit, Ocean County Sheriff's CSI and Brick Fire Prevention Bureau are not releasing information on the cause and origin of the fire.
