Novartis started July with a massive new round of layoffs, as the pharmaceuticals giant has jumped to the third most layoffs in New Jersey for this year, so far.
Announcing 322 cuts effective by October, Novartis previously issued a combined 250 layoffs of workers who also report to East Hanover, as confirmed in March, April and May.
Only Amazon and FreshRealm have announced more in-state layoffs in 2026 — with the respective closure of all Amazon Fresh stores and the bankruptcy filing of the fresh foods platform in Linden.
Within the first six days of July, Novartis was among a handful of employer notices announcing at least 684 layoffs across New Jersey, bringing the cumulative total for the year above 9,200.

Notions Marketing is a creative arts wholesale company, headquartered in Michigan for over 80 years.
A devastating fire at a warehouse there sent immediate ripples around the country — in the form of laid off remote workers, including 179 cuts in New Jersey.
Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel announced it is laying off 99 staff members, as confirmed with NJ WARN. It is the result of an overall redevelopment plan to convert a portion of the hotel to senior housing.
Fusion Transport, out of Piscataway, announced 79 layoffs effective by October.
Samsung, ADP and International Paper also report job cuts
There were also three NJ WARN announcements in the last days of June — for another combined 381 cuts.
About a month after announcing it is moving its headquarters out of state to Texas from Ridgefield Park, Samsung shared that 179 layoffs would be in effect by October.
Automatic Data Processing, based in Roseland, announced 76 layoffs effective by September.
International Paper also announced it is closing a box plant in Camden County, which will mean 126 layoffs, effective by late September.
