Army veteran and nurse killed in Florida Walmart parking lot dispute

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — No charges have been filed after a New Jersey man was killed in a Walmart parking lot.

Bart DiGuglielmo, 62, was shot to death in North Lauderdale around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, according to the Broward County Sheriff's Office. He was shot once and taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The shooter, an adult woman wearing a white shirt, has not been identified. She stayed at the scene and told detectives that she shot DiGuglielmo in self-defense. Investigators found that DiGuglielmo and the woman had argued over a parking spot before she opened fire.

Homicide detectives are still looking into the fatal shooting. It will be up to the Broward County State Attorney's Office to decide whether the woman will face charges, according to authorities.

Hammonton native served in the U.S. Army and worked as a nurse

DiGuglielmo was a New Jersey native from Hammonton who served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army for more than 16 years, according to his Facebook page. He was a fan of Philadelphia sports teams and Ohio State.

His sister said to CBS News Miami that DiGuglielmo was "a Christian man and a very good person." He served in Operation Desert Storm and then worked as a nurse for more than 30 years, she reportedly said.

DiGuglielmo's daughter said he moved to Florida three years ago to be closer to her, WPLG Local 10 reported.
