NORTHFIELD — Police are looking for the man they say sneaked up on a woman, caught her in a bear hug and grabbed her crotch.

The 26-year-old woman called police at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday from Birch Grove Park, police said. She told officers she'd passed by a white male, about 20 years old, 5 feet and 10 inches, clean-shaven, wearing a short-sleeve white T-shirt and light gray sweatpants, police said.

He caught up to her, got her in the bear hug and groped her, police said. She was able to fight him off using a set of keys to rake his face, police said. He may have scratches to his face from the encounter.

The male pushed the woman to the ground, and fled, leaving behind a blue bandana, police said.

Officers set up a perimeter, and searched along with Galloway Township Police Department’s K-9 unit, but didn't turn up a suspect, police said. But they did obtain surveillance footage.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact 609-641-2832 ext.147.
