If you have kids, you can probably relate.  They're sitting on the couch, the TV is on, the video game or other electronic device is in their hands.  You have a question, so you call them. No response.  You call again.  No response.  Finally, you get tired of hearing the sound of your own voice repeating their names, so you go an octave higher and finally...."What?"

Little did you know, the ear buds were in their ears and their music was on so they had entered into their own little world and were in the zone.  Now, in my house, the rule is....no electronic devices during the school week so I don't often have that problem.  Honestly, my kids are so busy with their extra curricular activities that they barely have time for their electronic devices anyway.  And they're still small so they don't exactly like the feeling of ear buds being in their little ears.  But, there are those occasions when this exact scenario plays out in my house.
