As a New York Mets fan, it would almost be unheard of for someone like Gov. Chris Christie to say something nice about a New York Yankee.

But the New Jersey governor offered nothing but praise Wednesday for one all-star pitcher.

Christie applauded Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, who appeared in his final All-Star Game Tuesday at Citi Field -- where the Mets play their games.

Despite being a Mets fan, Christies said the Yankees pitcher was good citizen, a role model who always provided "fans of that other team with a lot of thrills." He called Rivera one of the game's best relief pitchers.
