Controversy at NJ hospital over surgeon’s remarks on Charlie Kirk
⚖ Doctor reportedly 'cheered' the assassination of Charlie Kirk
⚖ Nurse Lexi Kuenzle reported the incident to hospital management
⚖ Kuenzle says she was suspended, now files lawsuit
UPDATE: Englewood Health has confirmed in a statement to New Jersey 101.5 that it has "diligently" investigated an incident between Dr. Matthew Jung and nurse Lexi Kuenzle. The hospital has accepted Jung's resignation. Kuenzle is still employed and will not miss any pay. She is expected to report for work as scheduled, according to the statement. The hospital denies Kuenzle was fired or told by the hospital that she would be fired.
A nurse from New Jersey has gone viral on social media after accusing a surgeon at Englewood Hospital of cheering the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Lexi Kuenzle says she was at a nurses station with eight colleagues when news of Kirk's assassination broke.
Her reaction to hearing the news? "Oh, my God! That's terrible! I love him," she said.
That's when she claims Dr. Matthew Jung yelled back, "I hate Charlie Kirk. He had it coming. He deserved it."
Kuenzle says she was stunned to hear Jung talk that way in front of hospital staff and a patient. She questioned how celebrating a person's death could be in line with the Hippocratic Oath and the American Medical Association's Code of Medical Ethics.
The nurse says she reported Jung's outburst to Englewood Health management immediately.
When she got home, Kuenzle says she also posted about it on her social media.
Called into a meeting with management
It was the next day Kuenzle says things took a dark turn.
When she arrived for work, she says was summoned to a meeting with hospital management and human resource officials.
The lawsuit states:
"The Human Resources department and administration was faced with two choices:
1) discipline the doctor who praised the murder of a Christian activist on the floor of the hospital—in front of patients and staff; or
2) take action against the Christian Nurse for challenging this.
Defendants chose to discriminate and retaliate against Plaintiff Lexi Kuenzle."
Kuenzle is a conservative and supporter of President Donald Trump, as is reflected in her social media posts.
Where is Dr. Matthew Jung?
Officials at Englewood Health are not commenting on the incident or the lawsuit; however, there is no longer any mention of Dr. Matthew Jung on the hospital website.
A Google search still showed Dr. Jung on the englewoodhealth.org website, but clicking the link produced the message: "We’re sorry, the page you requested has been moved or deleted."
A search of the hospital's website returns no result for Dr. Jung.
Efforts to contact Dr. Jung for a comment have been unsuccessful.
