Linden firefighters are continuing to battle a large blaze that broke out in an apartment building on St. Georges Avenue Monday, police have confirmed.

According to Lt. Andrew Bara, the fire is burning in residential building located at 1102 West St. Georges Ave. Bara could not provide details on where the fire started or what municipalities aside from Linden are en route to provide assistance.

"They are working to contain it," he told NJ 101.5

Bara confirmed that there are people that require medical treatment but he did not have any specific information on the nature of their injuries.

Police are advising motorists traveling along the busy roadway to avoid St. Georges Avenue between Stiles Street and Ross Street, on the Rahway border.

"We do have that part of the roadway closed down," Bara said.

This is a developing story. We will post additional information as it becomes available.
