When it comes to celebrating the new year, I've always looked forward to spending the time with my family and closest friends.  I don't need to put on a ball gown and head to a black tie, adults-only affair while the kids stay home with a babysitter and hit the sack early.  Don't get me wrong, I like nights out, but on New Year's Eve, I like to spend it with the people I care about the most.

I've never really been big on driving on New Year's Eve, so I usually stay close to home.  My girlfriend usually has a small get-together for close friends and families and it's something the kids look forward to every year because they actually get to stay up until midnight.  Dessert and drinks are served, we have good conversation and right before midnight, we get on our party hats, blow our horns and pop the champagne open when the ball comes down.   It's simple, it's fun and most of all, it's meaningful.

Of course, when entering a new year, you often reflect on the past 365 days.  Usually, there are good, bad, happy and sad times that are included in that time frame.  I've had all four.  But as I look ahead to 2012, I'm just grateful for my family, the new friends I've made and the ones who have been there all along.  Cheers and Happy New Year!
