You'd never know that this is the first day of Spring in New Jersey!

I dare you to have a bowl of chili, sitting at the NJ101.5 picnic bench! (Craig Allen photo).

With the snow coming down, you'll need a warm and hearty meal this weekend!

This meaty chili fits the bill!

Besides, how can you go wrong with a recipe calls for a bottle of beer? And...chocolate?!

Some of the ingredients that you will need... (Craig Allen photo).

2&1/2 lb lean chuck, ground (hamburger)

1 lb lean pork, ground

Brown the beef and pork in a large pan. Once cooked, put the meat in a large pot, and add:

4 cloves finely chopped garlic

1 C finely chopped onion

8 oz tomato sauce

1 C water

1 can/bottle of beer (12 oz).

3 Tablespoons chili powder

2 Tablespoons instant beef bouillon (or 6 cubes)

2 Tablespoons ground cumin

2 teaspoons paprika

2 teaspoons oregano leaves

2 teaspoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground coriander

1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa

1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (or more if you like your chili HOT)

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer (covered) for about 2 hours. STIR OFTEN.

Its simmering! (Craig Allen photo).

If you want to thicken the chili, in a small bowl, stir together:

1 teaspoon cornmeal

1 teaspoon flour

1 teaspoon warm water

Stir into chili, and cook (covered) for an additional 20 minutes.
