Christie: Nightclub attack should produce overseas military response

TRENTON (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Sunday's deadly attack at a gay nightclub in Orlando should prompt an overseas military response.

The Republican governor said Tuesday morning on New York radio station WFAN that "radical Islamic terrorists are out to kill us," when he was asked to respond to the attack that left 49 people dead.

"It is unacceptable to allow this type of stuff in our country and for us to not fight back," he said. "We've got to fight back."

Christie was limited on details of where the U.S. should attack.

"You've got to get over there and make them pay where they live," Christie said.

His comments on the attack were brief and came after one of the radio hosts asked him to discuss the shooting.

"You just have to pray for those victims and their families," he said.

The White House and the FBI said 29-year-old American-born Muslim Omar Mateen appears to be a "homegrown extremist" who committed the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Authorities said he had touted support for the Islamic State and other radical groups that are enemies of the U.S.
