Cement truck catches fire on Route 287, causes big delay in Edison
EDISON — A cement truck fire on a busy section of Route 287 in Middlesex County will have an effect on the afternoon commute.
The fully engulfed truck blocked two lanes just past Exit 1 for Route 1 on the northbound side about 11:45 a.m. creating a multi-mile delay, according to State Police spokesman Laurence Peale.
Peale said the driver of the truck, whose identity Peale did not disclose, escaped from the truck and was not injured. A cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to Peale.
