The sheriff's office says the copper and aluminum wire was found at the man's residence in Bloomingrose. Deputies later confirmed with Appalachian Power Co. officials that the cable belonged to the utility.

Investigators believe the wire was stolen from the Prenter area of Boone County, which was hit hard by recent storms. Many residents have been without power for more than a week.

The sheriff's office said it is seeking the arrest of Robert Graham Powers of Seth on felony charges related to the wire theft.
