“As the state university of New Jersey, it’s the day where we invite all the citizens of the state to see what a great university we are,” said Linda Bassett, director of community relations at Rutgers University.

Last year, the event drew a record 84,000 visitors.

This year’s activities will include the Tent of Big Ideas, where faculty members will present talks on topics ranging from stress to Bruce Springsteen, as well as a presentation on how ice cream is made with liquid nitrogen. For the athletically inclined, there will be a mini-combine on the College Avenue campus, with participants invited to practice throwing and jumping with the help of student-athletes.

This year’s “Rutgers Day” will also coincide with "Alumni Weekend", an event where former students are invited to reconnect with classmates. The Rutgers Day and Alumni Parade will walk down College Avenue at 11 a.m.

“We have great attendance by alumni every year at Rutgers Day,” said Bassett. “But this was an opportunity for those alumni who want to spend an entire weekend in New Brunswick. There’s a host of activities for them.”

Parking for the event is free. Shuttle buses will be available to transport visitors to the university’s College Avenue, Busch, and Cook/Douglass campuses. For more information, visit http://rutgersday.rutgers.edu .
