A man accused of murdering five teenagers in 1978 is coming face to face with one of the detectives who helped bring charges against him.

Lee Evans is acting as his own attorney at his murder trial in Newark.  On Wednesday's fourth day of testimony, Evans probed a Newark police detective about why he didn't investigate a report that the teens had been chased and shot at while riding in Evans' truck a few days before they disappeared.

Sabur said the report was unconfirmed.  Evans is accused of luring the teens to an abandoned house with the promise of odd jobs. Another man who has pleaded guilty to the murders says Evans then locked the boys inside and set the house on fire. Their bodies were never recovered.
