A four-year-old boy died from his injuries after falling from a fifth-floor apartment in Jersey City on Saturday.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez told NJ Advance Media the boy was found in the parking lot of the Summit Plaza apartment building on Newark Avenue around 2:30 p.m. He died at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health at 3 p.m.

Suarez told the news site that the death appears to be accidental but an investigation continues.

Residents told CBS New York there are no bars on the window.

“If you let a woman move in with a small child at home, you should have some type of safety or bars on the windows," Denise Jorrin said.

New Jersey law does not require window guards to be installed by a landlord unless requested by a tenant who has a child 10 years old or younger.
