4-Alarm Fire In Passaic Leaves 100 in the Cold
A four-alarm fire late Wednesday that burned though 4 buildings in Passaic has forced 100 from their homes.
The fire is now under control but not before a portion of the roof collapsed on the building where the fire is believed to have started along Broadway in Passaic reports ABC 7.
At least 2 of the four buildings have stores on their first floor and apartments on the second floor. Residents were taken to a temporary shelter at City Hall. One of the buildings was completely destroyed according to News 12 New Jersey which reports the blaze started in the basement of a restaurant.
No injuries or fatalities are reported.
Mayor Alex Blanco told News 12 NJ that the buildings are older and were built right up next to each other which helped the fire spread rapidly. PSE&G shut off a gas line that was feeding the fire.
Broadway through Passaic remains closed according to New Jersey Fast Traffic as firefighters remain concerned about some of the buildings collapsing.
