First they are playing….then they’re not….then they’re reinstated…then they’re suspended again.

Who am I talking about?

Why, the Wayne Hills 9, of course. If you remember, they're the students and high school athletes who were allegedly involved an aggravated assault a few weeks ago of a couple of rivals from another school….now will not be able to play in the Dec. 3 state sectional championship game.

The team will play Old Tappan for the North 1, Group 3 title Dec. 3 at MetLife Stadium.

The school board called the emergency meeting Wednesday, saying that the controversy had an impact on the day to day operations of the school. (Hmmm, where did I hear that one before?)

The board also issued a plan that, among other things, includes a review of their policies dealing with conflict of interest when an administrator is also a coach.

Wayne Hills football coach Chris Olsen also happens to be the athletic director.

The Board also said it never voted to overturn the original decision by interim Superintendent Michael Roth, which was thought to be a suspension of those students who were allegedly involved in the assault from all extracurricular activities. They say that they only stayed the decision until further hearings.

Kind of makes your head spin….doesn’t it?

The lesson here is simply this…Two fold actually!

Number one: Football has replaced God!

Number two: The board seems to make its decisions based on the direction the wind is blowing.

Sad, considering that these are the folks in charge of making “tough” decisions.

That’s the reason why we say, over and over again, you must make it a point to vote in school board elections.

If not, you get a bunch of bureaucrats who can’t tell their butts from their elbows.

I’m sure there’s more to come with this.

As I said, it’s the “gift that keeps on giving”.
