Two men have been charged with murdering a 15-year-old girl who'd been found dead in a crawlspace of an abandoned Lower Township home late last year, weeks after she'd gone missing from her nearby home.

Derrick Powers, 23 and Charles Mosley, 33 both of Rio Grande, were charged with murder and sexual assault in Nicole Angstadt's death. Mosley had already been charged in connection with an alleged sexual relationship with the 15-year-old girl; Powers had already faced robbery charges as part of the same investigation.

An announcement Friday of the charges still left much about the death a mystery — the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office had already said Angstadt's death was considered a homicide, but has yet to say how it believes she died.

It also hasn't yet said how it connected the two men to Angstadt's death or what evidence suggested they killed her.

On Dec. 14 Detectives from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Lower Township Police Department went to 100 Vermont Ave. and discovered the body of a white female, later identified as Angstadt, the prosecutor's office said. Angstadt was reported missing by her mother on Dec. 1.

In December, three people were charged in the investigation — but none at the time for causing Angstadt’s death. Mosley was charged at the time with sexual assault of a person at least 13 but less than 16 years of age, a crime of the second degree; endangering the welfare of a minor in the third-degree; and trespassing in the fourth degree. Powers and LaQuan D. Harris, 20, of Rio Grande were both charged with two counts each of first-degree armed robbery and second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Authorities haven't said how the robbery charges connect to Angstadt's death, or whether Harris may face further charges.

Both Mosley and powers face several other charges, including murder during the course of a sexual assault, conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to desecrate a human body.

Bail for each was set at $1 million, and both were lodged at the Cape May County Correction Center in lieu of bail.
