Ray Parker, Jr. first rose to prominence as a member of Raydio after years of being one of the most sought after session guitarists. As a solo act he hit #1 in 1984 with the theme from “Ghostbusters”, but he had a slew of hits both with Raydio and on his own. In 1979 he cracked the top ten with “You Can’t Change That” which peaked at number 9. In 1981, “A Woman Needs Love (Just Like You Do)” did even better, reaching #4 on the pop charts. But it’s the follow up to that song that I requested of Big Joe (to no avail); “That Old Song” is a song you never hear on the radio anymore, but it hit #21 and was his last hit with Raydio as he went solo in ’82. Unfortunately, Big Joe didn’t play it.
