Woman Sentenced in NJ Test-Prep Fraud

A woman who prosecutors say ran a New Jersey-based test-preparation business that stole questions used in medical licensing exams has been sentenced to time served.

Forty -year-old Egija Kuka and her ex-husband, 48-year-old Eihab Suliman, faced fraud charges related to their Totowa-based Optima University test preparation service.

Kuka expressed remorse at her sentencing Wednesday in federal court in Newark. Prosecutors acknowledged that Suliman was the alleged ringleader of the fraud and Kuka had cooperated with the government. Suliman remains at large.

Kuka faces deportation to her native Latvia.

Prosecutors say the couple used a digital device to copy questions and give them to clients at their test-prep centers in New Jersey and Tennessee.

A message left with The National Board of Medical Examiners was not immediately returned.
