This will make you proud to be from Jersey. An 11-year-old and a 12-year-old were playing with what this article describes as an "Air Sport" gun that fires plastic BBs. They were in Audubon Park in Jersey City when they shot an 8-year-old boy. There was no serious injury. These were plastic BBs that only left a mark but never broke the skin.

Yet the older boys were both arrested. The 12-year-old is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and obstruction. The 11-year-old is charged with possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose. These weapons charges fall under the category of "imitation firearm." Yeah, that's what we called a toy gun when I was a kid.

Had this happened in the 80s, a mom would have yelled at the kids, put a cool rag on the 8-year-old's welt, and that would have been the end of it.

Here in 2017 New Jersey, this results in weapons charges. Any of this remind you of the Carlo Bellario case? I find this whole thing ridiculous.
