Getting in trouble with police is one thing. Getting trouble with Santa is another.

A 7-year-old girl from Old Bridge called the former when she became worried she'd gotten onto the latter's naughty list after accidentally touching her Elf on the Shelf, NBC New York reports.

Anyone who follows the popular children's character knows that's a big problem.

"Christmas magic is very fragile, and if scout elves are touched they may lose their magic," according to the FAQ on ElfOnTheShelf.com. It suggests writing a letter to Santa to make amends.

But Isabelle LaPeruta took a quicker route with a 911 call. In the NBC report, she's heard telling a police operator, "It's Isabella." "Hi. Hi, Isabella. Why are you calling 911?" the operator asks. But then, Isabella panics: "Don't come to my house! Don't!"

According to the report, Isabella's mother awoke to find her child in tears, trying to shoo away a police officer who arrived. The girl told the station she didn't want to get into trouble after the elf fell on the floor when she threw a ball.

But she's square with Santa, she said: "He knows I'm not going to do that again."
