Seven United Way organizations in the Philadelphia area and Southern New Jersey have announced plans to merge.

Officials said Monday that the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey will be able to address regional issues while still targeting local needs of each community.

The new organization will be made up of the United Way groups in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May and Greater Cumberland counties in New Jersey along with Southeast Delaware County and Southeastern Pennsylvania United Way groups.

Jill Michal, president and CEO of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania, will head the new organization.

Officials said the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey will be able to engage more donors, advocates and volunteers in helping local communities in education, income and health.
