Two Quakes Shake Oklahoma

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a 4.0 magnitude earthquake has rattled central Oklahoma, the latest in a series of temblors to rock the state over the weekend.

The monitoring agency based in Golden, Colo., reported that the quake hit at 3:39 a.m. Sunday and was centered about 36 miles east of Oklahoma City.

A magnitude 5.6 earthquake last night was centered 44 miles northeast of Oklahoma City and could be felt as far away as Tennessee and Wisconsin. The Survey also said a magnitude 4.7 quake early Saturday was felt from Texas to Missouri and that numerous aftershocks followed.

There were no immediate reports of serious injuries or major damage from the quakes, but there were reports of cracked buildings, one buckled highway and a chimney collapse.
