After agreeing to merge, New Jersey's Princeton Borough and Princeton Township are finding there's a lot to work through in a hurry.

The two central New Jersey communities agreed last year to join in hopes it would save tax money.

They're to join together on Jan. 1, 2013. Officials in the towns tell The Times of Trenton they are working on many of the details, such as figuring out how to reconfigure government departments

One of the first jobs is shrinking the workforce a bit. Officials hope to do that through attrition and early retirement incentives rather than layoffs.

The goal is to save taxpayers a total of $1.6 million in the first year of a united Princeton.
