Consumer alert: The Home Depot sold 28 items following recall, company says

Fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, power strips, vacuums, washing machines and portable generators were among the 28 items that The Home Depot continued to sell even after the products were recalled, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Wednesday.

"This involves about 2,310 units of recalled products, including about 1,300 sold by Home Depot to consumers and 1,010 sent by Home Depot to salvagers or recyclers who could have sold them to consumers," the commission said in an online statement.

The Home Depot currently has more than 60 stores in New Jersey, according to their website.

According to the commission, the products were recalled between 2012 and 2015.

The commission advises consumers who may have purchased one of the recalled products to stop using the item immediately "and contact the recalling firms to receive the remedies listed in the recall, which is either a refund, replacement or repair."

According to the commission, more information on the recall is available by calling Home Depot directly at 800-466-3337 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Consumers who may have purchased one of the recalled items can also go online to www.homedepot.com for more information and click on "product recalls."
